Cebu Pacific and Lufthansa Technik are expanding their long-standing cooperation in engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) with a new three-year agreement covering 18 additional shop visits for CFM56-5B engines. The engines power Cebu Pacific’s Airbus A320ceo family fleet, which the airline is gradually transitioning away from as it moves toward the A320neo family and its latest-generation propulsion systems.
The agreement, signed in Manila, represents Cebu Pacific’s final MRO tender for its legacy narrowbody engines. Under the contract, the CFM56-5Bs will receive comprehensive sustainment services, including complete overhauls, at Lufthansa Technik’s engine facilities in Hamburg, Germany, and Dublin, Ireland. The first engine covered by the agreement is expected to arrive at the Dublin facility by the end of the month.
Mike Szucs, Chief Executive Officer at Cebu Pacific, said maintaining high standards of airworthiness, safety and operational performance while managing maintenance costs remains a priority for the airline. He highlighted Lufthansa Technik’s long-standing role as a strategic partner supporting Cebu Pacific’s operational requirements and growth plans.
The latest agreement marks the third engine contract between the two companies. Dennis Kohr, Senior Vice President Corporate Sales Asia-Pacific at Lufthansa Technik, described the agreement as an important milestone and highlighted the companies’ long-standing cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Cebu Pacific and Lufthansa Technik have worked together continuously for more than ten years, with their cooperation expanding beyond engine MRO. Cebu Pacific is also a long-standing customer of Lufthansa Technik Philippines in Manila for Base Maintenance Services.
Their broader cooperation includes fleet-wide supply of consumables and expendables, specialised repairs for airframe-related components, Cyclean engine washes and tailored Aircraft Transition Services. Cebu Pacific also uses Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem, including AMOS maintenance and engineering software and flydocs for digital asset management.
The new engine agreement adds another element to the companies’ extensive technical services relationship while supporting Cebu Pacific’s ongoing fleet transition toward the Airbus A320neo family.
