Bombardier has announced that its Global 8000 business jet has established a new speed record on the Los Angeles–Farnborough route, completing the journey in 8 hours and 46 minutes. During the flight, the aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.93 despite unfavourable tailwinds, making the new record 2.2 percent faster than the previous mark for the city pair.
With a top speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, the Global 8000 is designed to combine high-speed performance with long-range capability. The aircraft can transport passengers across long distances while providing access to a broad range of destinations.
The record-setting flight was undertaken as the aircraft travelled to Farnborough to demonstrate its capabilities to visitors and participate in the aerial display at the Farnborough International Airshow.
Stephen McCullough, Executive Vice President of Engineering, Product Development, and Bombardier Defense, said the new record highlights the Global 8000’s speed, agility and performance. He also pointed to the aircraft’s smooth ride, luxury cabin, low cabin altitude and landing capabilities as key features of the aircraft.
According to Bombardier, the Global 8000 can access up to 30 percent more airports than its nearest competitor, further expanding its operational flexibility for business aviation operators and passengers.
The latest achievement adds another performance milestone to the Global 8000 programme and reinforces the aircraft’s positioning around high-speed, long-range business aviation.
